All Decked Out

Yay, the back deck is finally finished.  It was a major job for Ben which took a few months to finish, especially since he was only working on it over the weekends.
It's a huge deck, almost 8m x 8m.  He used steel posts and joists as he finds it so much easier to work with metal instead of wood.  For the actual decking we decided to use Ekodeck, which is composite wood made of bamboo and recycled plastic.  It doesn't need staining or decking oils at all.  The price was the same as Ironbark anyway.

Camellias planted against the fence

Ben also used the 'Camo' secret nailing system, which screws the decking in from the sides of each panel.  This basically means you that you don't see the screws on the top of each panel.  Looks much better.

  2. Great work. Have just been researching composite deck products & thinking of using ekodeck so was delighted to find your blog. Is it the dark brown? I am trying to find out what their mountain oak colour looks like as an alternative, our local store does not have any samples. It hasn't been long since you have had it but curious to know how you like it?

  3. Hi, we used the dark brown. Bought it from Bunnings as they were the cheapest.

  4. hey guys love the deck!! i cant tell from the pics but just wondering if you can see any signs of the screws on the corners of the decking boards? we're thinking of using secret srew fixings as well, but tossing up over 'camo' or 'deck max', but was a little concerned if you could still see signs of the screws with the 'camo' system?
